Today's thoughts: Today the weights for presses were not happening for me -Frown don't know why - I was hoping to get 75# in today - but I could not even get 70# up more than onceCry.  It helps doing the workout with a group - being on your own with no one to help you thru makes it a very hard workout specially one that you are not very strong at to begin with Frown- wish I had done this with the group but then kids have soccer tryouts so not enough time to go for my workout and then dash back.

Push ups were not the easiest - but as the numbers were working down it was a good thing. Did it without having to repeat any set. Then came the pull ups - here going up to 10 - that was not easy - used purple & green band - till the set of 6 it was alright - then I had to really push thru to get the sets done - in the last set of 10 - took 3 attempts - broke at 7 1st time, at 5 2nd time and pushed thru in the last attempt. Time at 12:40.

Was not very happy with my performance today - Frown- I was not all there - did not quite get into it - going to try and do my workouts with the group rather than on my own and see if that makes a difference.


But the kids had a blast - they loved their workout tdy - it was thrusters - overhead walk -3  sets of jumps AMRAP in 12 mins - they tried a few of the skills after and got their names up on the sheet - Gaurav finally managed to get a DU at the gym and added his name on the board as well. Todays thoughts: I was a little worried when I saw back squats, thrusters (more squats) followed by burpees. I thought that I would not be able to do it. So stayed on the lower side with the weights for the BS. I was worried that I may not be able to go deep into the squat but went deep - as was confirmed by Margaret and Rochelle. So pleased that I did go deep into the squat and that there was no pain either Laugh. And they felt relatively easy too.


Thrusters once again played safe and went low on weight with 45# only - again for some reason quit after 21 - do I know why Confused - no - am I upset about it - yes - reprimanded myself all the way back. I know I could have done more for sure with this weight. Maybe I could have tried a heavier weight too. Frown Oh well another day another opportunity - no point crying over spilt milk.

Kept in mind that I had to maintain form in all 3 sets and all 5 lifts in each set. Did I do that?  I think I did. Had to change my grip in the last set of 5. Todays thoughts: I see rowing and I go Yell - I am so weak in that - so today I paced myself - went slower and did not get a stitch - for the first time - Laugh but felt a stretch in the back of the knee in the last row - not bad but a stretch -  that slowed me down - the shoulders were hurting - at the back near the blades - so thought I would go light on the KB for swings and use 8 kg (yellow) but that felt really light and would not be right - felt it would be like cheating so stuck with the red and happy I did - no discomfort or additional pain - had to dig really deep to keep going - Thanks to Chad - for encouraging me to dig in - pull ups - with the green & purple band - still figuring where I am at with these bands - will give myself till the end of the month using these bands and then move up/down - whatever the right direction is towards progression. I am not sure if it is green & red or green & black whichever.


For cool down stretches - the ham/lat stretch with the leg on the box - average 30 sec each leg before I gave up and push up (knees) I think I held for 1 min and 15 secs tdy.

FrownYell I am so upset that I had to cancel todays workout - one that I was looking forward to. Wanted to see how I would do with my presses and the finisher. But I had to go and slip on some ice on the sidewalk and fall on the way to work. I was hurting a bit in the morning soon after and thought I will be better by tonight to do the workout - WRONG.


I am sore on the right side completely from shoulders down and it hurts near my lower back. I took the brunt of the weight when I fell on my right and now I am sore - a few cuts - have not checked for bruises but cannot stretch up - pain on the side - so rather than risk further injury decided to pass on the workout tdy Cry - really upset about that. But better that than make it worse and not be able to workout for a lot longer.


So presses will have to wait for my attention - it is not going anywhere and neither am I - so we will meet again. I am so jinxed. Confused

Todays thoughts: I like this workout - it trains me to pace myself - and be consistent in my opinion. I was a little concerned about doing the squats. The fall that I took on Monday hurt my knees more than I thought - there is inflammation on the knee and it is painful for me to get up from squats and turn my knee/leg to the right. I asked Chad if I could do this but omit the squats as it hurt when I tried to do a couple to warm up. Going down to the squat was alright but getting up from it was painful. So rather than risk further injury did the workout without squats - I knew it would hurt my total but that did not matter. 

Pull ups - here I started OK - did 13 in the first set and knew I would not be able to maintain that pace through all 8 sets was hoping to have atleast 7 as the number - but after the 2nd set when I stopped - I was using my right leg on the band rather than my left as I cannot take the weight on my left. So when getting off I had to twist a little as the box was on the opp side of what I should have had it - so when doing that I felt a pull on my knee - yes the injured one - ouch Yell- that slowed me down completely - and could do only 4 - but maintained that pace throughout after - which I am happy about. Smile

Push ups - My shoulders and arms were hurting and I was trying to keep my left knee off the ground as much as possible - happy with the numbers - quite consistent. Smile

Today the day started with being excited about doing the “murph” workout - then I had to go and slip on some ice and fall  Surprised yes I know again - “I am jinxed” - “Calamity Jane” is my new name Embarassed. The beauty is I fall on my injured knee. Came home and thought do I go for the workout or do I cancel. Called myself chicken for even letting the thought of cancelling come to my head  Embarassed- strapped on all my braces and went to the gym. And am I happy I did that - super happy that I went for the workout.  Laugh

Todays thoughts: I was very nervous about todays workout - actually I am nervous before any workout and saw on the main blog that I am not the only one who feels anxiety. So that is normal I think. Wink. I was really worried about doing squats - doing air squats for the first time in a workout after the ligament issue. But I also wanted to see how far I could go. I wanted to do the half murphy but did not want to push my luck with the knee having fallen on it today too. In fact I had to take a few breaks during my 2nd row - bcos the knee was bugging me -  I am happy with the time - Smile. Could have been better but….. Wink


It was awesome to see everyone push thru - pretty inspiring - specially the guys doing the full RXed version I think - Matt, Chris and Trevor - awesome.

How does the knee feel - it is complaining a little - no more than usual for now - so that is a good sign - ice is keeping it company for now - tonight we shall see - and tomorrow may be a whole different story. We shall see. Smile

Looked at the WOD this morning online and thought - this should be easy - Wrong - well lets put it this way - it was not hard but it was not easy either by any means. I enjoyed it even though it left me breathless.

Todays thoughts: Total time including rests just shy of 14 minutes and I happy with that Smile. Chad said that he expected me to finish in 15 minutes and really happy that I did that. Laugh I need to work on my rowing and my box jumps - both these take the wind out of me. But I liked the 250m row - it did not feel like too much and not too little either bcos by the time I was doing the 6th round of it - I was tired and so out steam. Loved the workout today - very nice change in pace.

Was really sad that I missed Linda yesterday Cry - I have been wanting to take her on for a very long time - I remember asking Chad about it way before CFS was opened and he said I was not ready yet at that time which I agree and now when I am ready I could not come as I was working Frown - I guess I will have to wait a while for the next time she stops by for a visit. But seems like all who did it had fun and did awesome on it too.

Todays thoughts: Today was good - tiring but good - I had swollen fingers due to some kind of allergy so gripping the bar and the handle on the rower was painful to say the least. I knew I would be slow but I am happy with my time Smile - could have done better. I believe this is my 4th visit with “Nancy”. My first visit with her was in Mar 2008 when I did 4 rounds used a 15# bar and 400 m run, clocked at 16:51, my 2nd visit was in June 2008 this time I did only 3 rounds again using 15# bar and 400 m runs, clocked at 13 mins- the 3rd visit was the one on the board - with 500 m row , 35# clocked at 15:12 - it was 4 rounds  and was done on Dec 2008.

So Nancy the next time we meet I hope to beat the 19:58 time and go heavier on the OH squats too. Everyone did awesome today.

1st April


I had to miss Annie on Monday bcos of the allergy - swollen hands, face and feet - no way I could be out there doing any jump rope. Did not feel so bad. But today after reading the blog feel so inadequate - every one is making progress in leaps and bounds and I have done absolutely nothing. Feeling very upset and demotivated and have to face Jackie this evening.

Am I good at anything I wonder??? Cry 

I am definitely failing in the food challenge. Cry

I have not made any progress - if anything I have regressed. Cry

Today - at this time I feel like quitting - that is an honest confession - but I know I am not a quitter - I will keep at it - I may not make any landmarks like everyone else - I may not be successful but I will give it my best shot - I may even regret putting this on the forum - but had to get it off my chest before the workout - so that when I write about my performance tonight I can see how the day started and how it ended.

Hopefully it will end on a good note - we shall see - I may end up still upset - I hope not. I hope to do well in the WOD today. I will work at doing well at the workout today. Pull ups in the work out - not my strong point - thrusters - another weakness and rowing well that is my nemesis. So I am facing all the stuff I struggle with. Now I have to work at telling myself that I am good at something. I know I enjoy my workouts.

Todays thoughts: What an eventful day it has been. Started on a very bad note as my previous log will indicate. Tried all day to instill some positive energy in myself. I had to believe in my abilities. I had lost confidence in myself and had to work out of that hole I had dug myself into. Did I ?? I think I did to some extent for sure. Enough said on that subject.

So today's workout - surprisingly I found the row of 1000m not so bad - it helps to row down from 1000 to 0 rather than up to 1000 for me mentally. And I try to maintain the number (don't know the true significance of it) at 2:15 - 2:18 for rate. I should have noted the time but forgot all about it. Oh well.

Thrusters - wanted to try 45# but was afraid that I would not be able to (the lack of confidence I was talking about - this is it) so stayed with 35#. Broke it into sets of 10 except the last 10 did those as 2 sets of 5. They were OK I think.


Pull ups using the green and red band - really wanted to do these in 3 sets of 10 but no way - I did them instead in 6 sets of 5.


I thought this was my first visit with Jackie apparently I was mistaken. After the workout I saw that I had done it before bcos the board had a time of 12:09 with 25# and rings so I think I did this with 25 # and ring rows the last time and so this time I shaved 1 minute and thrusters were heavier by 10# and pull ups (banded ofcourse) instead of ring rows. So I am pleased. The day did end on a good note after all. Smile


Practised my kipping pull up - well I have got the kip part of it but the pull up part is still not happening. It was awesome to see a huge class today - if I am not mistaken we were almost 22 - 23 of us and had to go in 3 batches. It was nice - felt good. I am glad I am not  a quitter. Wink

Worked on the different OH stuff and I think I did something wonky in the last lift during the warm up. Not a lot but it hurt mostly in the right pecs and lats. After that I was not sure I would be able to do the workout. Stretched a little - pondered a little - thought about the weight on what I should do and finally decided I would go ahead and do the workout and finish it and pace it rather than go at it to finish fast.

Today's thought: I wanted to go with 65# or even 75# but after that pull I felt in the warm up I got scared and decided to stay low on the weight and first thought I would stay with the 45# bar but after mulling over it for a while - thought will try 55# and see if it hurts when I lift OH - was fine - could have ventured and tried 65# but by then there were not enough plates for me to add up to 65# when I looked (maybe I did not look hard enough either) so decided to stay with 55#. Did all 5 rounds with push presses.  Happy that I did not set bar down between the 5 push presses per round.

Burpees were slow today - that was done on purpose - broke them up in sets of 5 for the 1st 3 rounds and then it was 4, 2, 4 for the last 2 rounds - or something like that.


Finsihed at 7:32 - happy about that. Maybe if I had gone heavier I would have taken longer. After the workout kipped but no pull up. Worked on the pull ups with bands - wanted to see if I had progressed from green & red so tried green only and was told by Ash and Allison I think that they looked strong and should try purple and black and they looked strong too so now I am at purple and red - quite the leap - green and red to purple and red.

But now it hurts in the back  and the pecs (on the right side for both) when I turn my head to the left. So I think I did pull something - more foam roll tonight. Hopefully it will all be fine tomorrow.

Todays thoughts: Deadlifts is my fav lift as I have mentioned time and time again so I was really looking forward to todays wod. Because I had to bring the kids today for their workout - I did mine with them. Was aiming to do 200# today and did it with a little Yell- pretty happy about that - last time I did 195# across. I am hoping this will help when I try for my max DLs - to hit my target of 225# by the end of summer.

Due to knee issues I did sit ups instead of KTE and I think I did the 30 in about 40 - 45 secs. Is that good I dont know - I am happy. Smile


Boys had fun - they ran 400 m outside and were pretty excited about it - they ran it twice too.

Their WOD was 5 DL (using KB), bear crawl across length of gym, 3 burpees, bear crawl back except Gaurav who ran back - AMRAP as in 15 mins.

Numbers were Gaurav - 7, Rohit - 9, Garret- 9, Aditya - 10,  Brandon - 13.


The OLY weightlifting Workshop was awesome - although I could not partake in the practical side of it - I learnt a lot. If only I could have done the practical part too. Frown I will work on it when I am able. I am hoping I will remember all that was taught. It was fantastic to see everybody do it as a group and be a part of it. Chad did an awesome job as usual.

Today's thoughts: I could not do the WOD on the board today as it involved squatting and I am giving my knees a break and resting them for a bit. So Chad had to figure out what I can do - Thank you Chad for the special WOD. It was fun. I have never bench pressed with dumb bells before. I thought I would go with 15# DB but Chad in passing made a comment that made me rethink and go with 20# DB instead. He said “You are stronger than you think”. Sometimes I need to be told such things. Wink Then I tried the pull ups with the purple and black band and they seemed easy to do so once again remembering something else that Chad said - he said “You need to go heavy - (this while talking about what DB to use) - you need to feel like you are working out.” So I thought I would go with purple and red instead. I had never used these in a work out before. So all new stuff for me today in a way.

Was my time good - I dont know - but I am happy bcos I had targeted 15 minutes as max time to take - aiming for an impossible 10 mins and hoping to finish in 12 mins. The first 2 sets of presses did it straight no breaks - the last 3 sets I broke after 10 so did 10 and 5.

Pull ups as I was using these colours for the first time the plan was to do 3 sets of 5 which I managed once again in the 1st 2 rounds but 3rd round on it was 3s, and 4s and even ones. Happy that I did it  - now have to work at it so that I can do 10 without a break and then change bands - hopefully I will manage a kip AND pullup in the meantime as right now I have the kip under my belt not the pull up. Smile


Awesome sight today though seeing everyone working on the Front Squats - I am sure some PRs were made. The metcon after looked fun too.

Today's thoughts: Presses - one of my weakest lifts. Last time I did presses I was alone and did it during the kids workout and I was having difficulty getting 70# up. So I am happy that I did the 70# x 3 today , really wanted to get past 70# and hit 75# today - have done it once before (long long time ago) so was really sad that I could not get even one up at that weight. Tried 72# - thought that if I can do that then I can progress bcos it was a battle with the mind more than anything else - I seemed to have told myself - Oh 75# you cannot do that and so ofcourse I could not lift it. So I am happy that I got 72# 2 times atleast. Patience is the mother of all virtues - so I know it will happen. All in good time.


The funny thing is though as a few people at CFS know I am a grunter Yell - so yes I was  grunting for my lifts - then when the other girls that I was doing it with were lifting what do I do I grunt for them and they press - yay - the grunt worked for them too - but did not work for me at 75#. Smile

Today`s thoughts: After a very long time I worked out 3 days in a row. And all three days with presses in the workout. So yes my arms and shoulders are sore - but it is a good feeling. Today`s workout was fun. Lots of people - good to see - so we did it in 2 groups. While watching group 1 do it - I thought time is going so slowly - this is going to be a very long and hard workout. Little did I know how far from the truth I was till I did it in the 2nd round. Time flew by and I wanted to do more.

Knees troubled me a little during the KB swings - felt a little during that - also when I bent it to do the dips on the band. But now it seems fine so it is all good. Did go a little on the lighter side for both presses and swings - just playing it safe. I am dealing with a whole bunch of issues (knees, ribs, pelvis, lower back). Those falls that I took really did a number on me. I am just happy that I can workout. Smile

Was a good day today.
