What Division do I go in?
We are running with three divisions:
Division 1 - An athlete competing in division 1 should to be competent in all CrossFit movements and be
comfortable with weights typically prescribed on CrossFit HQ or your affiliates WOD board. You should have a good handle on all movement such as; olympic lifting, kettlebells, basic gymnastics and all other movements that CrossFit typically employs. In the spirit of building our community and to be inclusive to all fitness levels that our clubs offer we have decided that division 1 athletes will not need to be capable of unassisted handstand push-ups and muscle-ups, but will need unassisted pull-ups and dips, all other movements are fair game. Please do not read this as “easy” or “simplistic” - the workouts will be challenging for any athlete, even the “fire breather”. All workouts that will be provided are to be completed as Rx’d, no scaling will be allowed on the day of competition. The workouts will be created to ensure that the truly fittest and well rounded athletes come out on top. As our clubs grow in skill and size we can guarantee that these standards in movement may not be the same year to year.
Division 2 - An athlete competing in division 2 will need to be competent in most if not all CrossFit movements as well, and be comfortable scaling weights and movements minimally from CrossFit HQ and your affiliates prescriptions. Division 2 athletes will not need to be on “fire breather” status, nor will they need movements such as handstand push-ups and muscle-ups. Having competence in movements like olympic lifts, kettlebells and unassisted pull-ups and dips are going to be needed. The main difference between division 1 and 2 is that all weights and possibly some movements will be scaled down slightly from Rx’d. Scaling will be allowed, but any athletes who decide to scale will not be eligible for placement in the competition.
Division 3 - An athlete competing in division 3 will not need to be as well rounded in the CrossFit movements as a division 2 or 3. An understanding of the basic fundamental movements will be needed. This division will be for the CrossFit athletes who are beginners to the sport and are in the process of building strength in the slow lifts (deadlift, squat, press). An understanding of movements such as the push jerk, thruster, wall ball, assisted pull-ups and dips, lunges, rowing and kettlebell swings should be held. Scaling will be allowed on the day for all WOD’s if needed.
Please note that the entry fee is $65 plus taxes. It is non-refundable and non-transferable.
If you have any more specific questions related to your Division placement or any other questions concerning the challenge please contact us at info@crossfitsaskatoon.ca.
